The GenomEra® MRSA/SA AC assay, performed on the GenomEra® CDX Instrument, is a qualitative in vitro diagnostic (IVD) nucleic acid test intended for the detection of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) or methicillin-susceptible S. aureus (SA or MSSA) DNA directly from positive blood cultures or other microbial liquid cultures that are determined by Gram stain as gram-positive cocci and culture plates.
The test utilises automated homogeneous polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to detect a highly conserved nucleic acid sequence specific for SA and the gene encoding for methicillin resistance (mecA and mecC), ensuring comprehensive coverage of the various SA and MRSA strains.
